The same thing happened to you that happens to almost everyone: you visited a referral group, you liked how it works, and they told you someone else already holds your category. It is not a flaw in the group — it is exactly what makes the model work. The problem is that it leaves you out.
The good news is that the seat is per chapter, not per city. Your category can be taken in one group and open in another one fifteen minutes away.

Then we tell you the same thing they told you, because making an exception would wreck the group for whoever is already inside. But you have two ways out that do not depend on anyone leaving: join a nearby chapter where it is open, or open the one in your area and hold the seat from day one. Opening it is free.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my category taken if I got to the group first?
It is not personal and it is not a mistake: that is how the model works. A referral group admits one professional per category, because with three accountants at the table none of the three would ever get an accounting referral. The seat belongs to whoever got there first, and it only opens up if that person leaves.
Do I have to wait for that person to leave the group?
In that group, yes. But the seat is per chapter, not per city or region: the same category can be open in another chapter fifteen minutes away. Below you can see which of ours still have it available.
Do the members have to vote me in?
No. The application is approved by the chapter organizer, who checks that your category is open and that your profile is complete. There is no member vote and no admission interview.
Is there a joining fee?

Can I be in two referral groups at once?
Each organization decides that, not us: some require exclusivity. On our side there is nothing stopping you, and it is worth reading the terms of the group you are already in before joining another.
What if there is no chapter in my city?
You can open one. Creating a chapter is free, it makes you the founder, and your category’s seat is reserved for you before anyone else. You pick the day, the time and the venue.
